Japan’s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) selected a project involving four companies to develop optical chiplet manufacturing, targeting production efficiency more than 10 times that of current research-stage processes. The project is part of a Japanese program to develop advanced semiconductor manufacturing technology. Its work will cover optical semiconductors, silicon photonics, optical interconnects, semiconductor packaging and mass-production methods. The participants plan to establish and evaluate a pilot production line. NTT will serve as an adviser. NTT Innovative Devices will develop manufacturing, testing and packaging methods for optical chiplet production.
