IonQ announced Nov. 4 that it had signed an agreement to provide more than 150 hours of cloud access to its trapped-ion quantum computers for institutions across Connecticut through QuantumCT. QuantumCT is acquiring the runtime for a statewide network that includes the University of Connecticut, Yale University, startups and research labs. The arrangement gives participants hands-on use of commercial-grade quantum hardware through the cloud. IonQ will also provide technical support. The work will focus on quantum algorithms, optimization and materials science, as well as workforce training. Quantum algorithms are instructions for what a quantum computer should calculate.
