XRP Ledger Foundation Refutes Claims Patch Was “Forced” by Emergency Fix

XRP Ledger developers say they were forced to deploy an emergency security patch in a way that bypassed the network’s usual amendment vote, after uncovering a bug that could allow an attacker to mint spendable XRP beyond the ledger ’s fixed supply. The fix was released on Sept. 25 and took effect immediately for operators that installed it, following a bug bounty disclosure earlier that week. In a Sunday post on X, XRPL developers argued that waiting for the standard two-week validator vote would have left the vulnerability exposed for weeks—giving potential attackers time to test and weaponize it.
