Major US banks have detected unauthorized AI agents inside customer accounts, with some apparently attempting actions without customers’ instructions, Axios reported on October 22, 2026, citing people familiar with the matter. The agents often gain access using customers’ own login credentials. Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, JPMorgan and Wells Fargo are among the banks working to contain the risks. The reported activity puts customer account security and responsibility for automated transactions at the center of banks’ response. The agents have reportedly moved funds and contacted bank call centers.
