Three Australian Universities Plan Wider ChatGPT Edu Access

Three Australian universities are expanding access to OpenAI's ChatGPT Edu on different schedules, while La Trobe University is setting assessment rules as access expands into 2027. The University of New South Wales (UNSW) partnered with OpenAI in September 2026 to provide ChatGPT Edu to more than 80,000 students and staff. Broader availability is planned before the 2027 academic year. The University of Sydney announced free, supported access on Sept. 14, 2026, and began a student pilot in October. General access is scheduled for Semester 1 of 2027. The announcement also referenced a $1 million AI Sustainability Research and Innovation Fund.
