Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an faced a hostile reception at a Pride event following a contentious police raid on a local gay bar. The raid at Commander D bar earlier this month resulted in the detention of 51 individuals and the arrest of the venue’s owner, sparking allegations of excessive force and discrimination. Mayor Chiang, a member of the opposition Kuomintang (KMT) seeking reelection, has since issued an apology and initiated an internal investigation to address public outcry.
