Taipei’s Pride event drew a significant turnout of approximately 170,000 participants, marking one of the largest gatherings in the city this year. The event, known for its vibrant costumes and parade through the city’s streets, also became a platform for political expression. Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an faced protests during the parade, following a controversial police raid on a local gay bar earlier in October. The mayor, who is running for re-election, apologized for the incident, which resulted in disciplinary actions against several officers. Markets appear to see the event as a factor that could influence the upcoming Taipei mayoral election.
