New York City Comptroller Mark Levine confirmed contact with Anthropic on Oct. 16 after urging the company to pause its planned IPO until it addresses concerns about AI safety, governance and development pace. In an Oct. 14 letter to Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, Levine made a separate request for details on planned audits and controls, the risks they would cover and when they would be put in place. He argued that preparing for an IPO could draw attention away from safety work. Levine also criticized a White House accord involving Anthropic and five other companies as insufficient.
