Nasdaq Erases Afternoon Gain as Dow Rises Nearly 530 Points

The Nasdaq Composite gave up an afternoon gain and finished lower Tuesday as declines in large technology shares left it trailing the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500. At the 4 p.m. ET (20:00 UTC) close on Oct. 20, the Nasdaq stood at 26,424.82, down 6.07 points from Monday. It had been up 0.25% at 12:40 p.m. ET (16:40 UTC) before turning lower later in the session. The Dow gained 529.85 points to close at 52,495.88. The S&P 500's Oct. 20 gain was 21.84 points, bringing it to 7,712.57.
