Alliant senior vice president and former U.S. Rep. Rick Lazio called for incentives to help U.S. automakers and suppliers invest in robotics and advanced equipment, pointing to China’s electric-car output in 2025. In a commentary published Saturday, Lazio argued that improving production efficiency and investing in factory equipment should be priorities. He said smaller suppliers need particular attention because they often have less capital. “The next auto race will be decided by which country can excel at both,” Lazio wrote. Global electric-car production reached nearly 22 million in 2025, more than 25% above the previous year.
