Canada’s Crypto Rules Change took effect November 1 for banks with October 31 year-ends, changing how some crypto hedges and client-clearing trades count. The revisions give matched positions capital relief and remove qualifying clearing exposures from the Group 2 cap, while leaving that cap and collateral limits in place. The Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI) finalized the changes in September. The Coindoo reported the implementation sets November 1, 2026 for institutions with October 31 year-ends, including Canada’s six largest banks. Banks with December 31 year-ends follow on January 1, 2027, despite the guideline’s 2027 label.
