Circle Publishes Guide to CCTP Transfers for Non-USDC Tokens

Circle published a developer guide on Oct. 30 explaining how issuers can connect ERC-20 tokens other than USDC to its Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP) across supported blockchains. Issuers have two options: deploy a new native cross-chain token or configure an existing ERC-20 token as a custom CCTP connection. The native-token route uses a burn-and-mint process, which burns tokens on one network before minting them on another. Custom connections can use burn-and-mint or lock-and-unlock on the token’s home blockchain. Transfers to remote blockchains use burn-and-mint.
