Amazon Agrees to Withdraw Data Center Plan and Dedicate Roughly 25 Acres

Amazon agreed to withdraw its proposed data center application at George Washington University’s Virginia Science and Technology Campus in Ashburn, Virginia, and forgo legal action, while committing to dedicate roughly 25 acres to county uses. Loudoun County Board of Supervisors Chair Phyllis Randall announced the agreement Tuesday, Oct. 20. The parcels Amazon committed to dedicate have an estimated fair market value of about $65 million and are described as suitable for a community arts center and an indoor sports facility. The $65 million figure is the estimated value of the 25 acres, not a cash payment.
