Zcash Activates NU7 With 25-Second Block Target, 40% Miner Fee Share

Zcash (ZEC) activated its NU7 network upgrade at block 3,543,405, reducing the target interval between blocks from 75 seconds to 25 and changing how the protocol distributes subsidies and transaction fees. The block is timestamped Thursday, Nov. 5, at 9:34 p.m. ET (02:34 UTC Nov. 6). The new target sets an expected average wait of 25 seconds for a first confirmation, but it does not guarantee that timing for an individual transaction. Exchanges and merchants set their own confirmation requirements and deposit-credit policies, so the shorter interval does not determine when a user can trade or spend a deposit.
