The XRP Ledger Foundation has publicly addressed concerns after a severe security flaw was discovered that could have allowed attackers to mint trillions of unauthorized XRP, threatening the entire market capitalization of $94 billion. In a statement, the foundation clarified that its decision to bypass the standard amendment procedure for protocol changes was due to the extraordinary nature of the threat. This vulnerability, found in the core payment engine of the XRP Ledger, bypassed the fixed supply cap and could have enabled the creation of around 18.45 trillion new XRP in a single transaction.
