An emergency update for the XRP Ledger protocol has been released after a critical bug was discovered in its payment engine, posing severe risks to the XRP supply. xrpld version 3.4.1, launched on September 25, 2026, addresses this serious vulnerability, which allowed attackers to mint new spendable XRP through a single transaction. A researcher reported the vulnerability to the XRPL Bug Bounty program on September 22, 2026. The flaw, an integer overflow in the payment engine, could be exploited by an attacker to create XRP out of thin air using a combination of specially crafted offers and one payment.
