Utah Attorney General Derek Brown filed a state-court lawsuit against Kalshi and affiliated companies on October 20, seeking to stop the platform from offering event contracts to Utah residents. The action alleges Kalshi is operating illegal gambling in a state that prohibits it, and asks the court for injunctions, restitution and damages. The complaint seeks an order barring Kalshi's offerings to Utah residents, alongside monetary remedies tied to the state's allegations. Brown's office contends that the contracts amount to unlawful gambling under Utah law.
