UnitedHealthcare's Medicare Advantage policy makes Amvuttra nonpreferred for certain cardiomyopathy patients, requiring members in covered plans to meet step-therapy criteria before they can receive the drug. It took effect Oct. 1, 2026, for non-employer group Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug plans. For ATTR-mediated cardiomyopathy, the policy lists Attruby and Vyndamax as preferred and Amvuttra as nonpreferred. It allows Amvuttra coverage after a patient's condition progresses or a related hospitalization occurs while the patient is taking a preferred drug. Coverage is also allowed for intolerance or an adverse event, or continuation of prior treatment within 365 days.
