U.S. stock indexes ended the week unevenly, with the VIX up about 30% as traders weighed faster annual inflation and bank results alongside continued declines in technology shares. Across the five sessions through Oct. 16, the Nasdaq Composite shed more than 4% and the S&P 500 lost roughly 2%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 0.7%. Friday’s losses added to the technology-sector pressure detailed in earlier coverage of the week’s Nasdaq slide . Consumer prices in the United States rose at a 3.7% annual rate in September, compared with 3.4% in August. The result matched expectations.
