President Donald J. Trump announced $8 billion in aid for U.S. farmers Oct. 19, while a separate pledge to pay $5,000 to every adult U.S. citizen depends on Republicans retaining both chambers after the midterms. Trump’s pledge is separate from the farm aid plan . No payment timetable has been announced for the broader pledge. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will calculate payments for the 2026 crop year using farmers’ reported planted acreage, production-cost estimates, and crop yield and price forecasts. The department expects to release rates for major commodity crops in November, after the midterm elections.
