Tokenholder Distributions Lift Large-Cap Crypto Returns in 2026

Tokenholder distributions have become a central focus in 2026 crypto performance, with tokens yielding more than 1% outperforming Bitcoin (BTC) by about 7% per quarter. About one-quarter of large-cap tokens have beaten Bitcoin so far this year. That compares with more than 85% of large-cap tokens that lagged Bitcoin in 2025. An illustrative index of such tokens returned 82% through the third quarter. Its median return was positive for the first time since 2021. Tokens with stronger distribution models were outperforming Bitcoin, placing greater emphasis on token fundamentals in comparisons of large-cap assets.
