Tesla could begin delivering Optimus to companies outside Tesla around the end of 2027. Remaining work includes safety, reliability, service life and AI needed for Optimus to handle open-ended tasks. Parts of the robot’s design are still changing. Most of a Fremont production line designed to make one million robots a year is in place. Reaching a rate of 20,000 units a week could take at least another year and possibly longer. Tesla is also targeting integration of its AI5 chip into Optimus around April 2027, provided development stays on schedule.
