A Taoyuan union at U.S. chipmaker Micron is recruiting members from the company’s Taichung union to build a larger union and reopen talks over an existing labor agreement. The Taoyuan group wants Micron to renegotiate and aims to overturn the agreement already reached with the Taichung union. The Taoyuan union has fewer than 3,000 members and is seeking to expand its membership by bringing in Taichung union members. Taichung union chairman 徐志銘 said the existing agreement has legal effect and that he respects the Taoyuan union’s approach.
