Stock ownership is one way to see how much trust households place in financial markets. A 2025 study by HelloSafe compared 32 countries and found large gaps in how many people own shares, either directly or through funds, pensions and life insurance. The United States leads at 55%, followed by Canada at 49% and Australia at 37%. At the other end of the list, Morocco sits at 0.5%. This article uses the HelloSafe data, a Voronoi summary of it, market value figures from Wikipedia and the Allianz Global Wealth Report 2026.
