REALITY CHECK | Over 70% of Bitcoin Lightning Nodes Running Outdated Software Over One Year

Nearly 3/4 of Bitcoin Lightning Network nodes flagged for outdated software remained on affected release lines more than a year after security fixes became available highlighting the gap between blockchain transparency and consistent network maintenance. A study by Bitcoin Data Labs researcher, Saurabh Kumar, found that 71% of 550 public Lightning Network Daemon (LND) nodes identified during an August 2026 security disclosure were still running affected software lines as of October 13 2026.
