Petra Power is targeting data centers and the Defense Department with solid oxide fuel cells that convert fuels such as natural gas into electricity without combustion, with first deployments planned for 2028. The company sells the ceramic systems as a smaller and potentially more efficient alternative to conventional power generation. Petra Power founder Aaron Goodman said the technology can reduce fuel costs, emissions and physical footprint because it avoids several conversion stages used in combustion-based systems. “Combustion takes fuel and creates explosions,” Goodman said. “Those explosions create heat. That heat creates motion.
