Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s office initially sought to prevent U.S. military personnel from participating in the NFL game in Paris amid unrest in the city. The decision was partially reversed after intervention by the State Department, which cited the diplomatic significance and assessed low security risks for U.S. troops. The Pentagon agreed to a limited military presence, including a color guard, reflecting a compromise that maintained some level of participation in the event. This development comes as a consideration for markets focusing on Hegseth’s tenure as Secretary of Defense.
