Operational Exposure Accounts for Most of Bitcoin’s Measured Quantum Exposure

An estimated 6.04 million Bitcoin (BTC) are exposed to a potential quantum attack while at rest, with address use and custody practices accounting for the larger share. The operational category contains 4.12 million BTC, more than twice the 1.92 million BTC classified as structurally exposed. The measure checks whether a public key tied to coins is already visible on the Bitcoin blockchain. By that measure, the exposed group represents 30.2% of issued supply. Another 13.99 million BTC, or 69.8%, have no public-key exposure while at rest under this test.
