Ukraine’s satellite-link disruption has exposed a timing gap in Europe’s military communications plans: the European Union is pooling member-state capacity, but Kyiv’s access remains unsettled and the bloc’s dedicated constellation targets its first launches in 2029. Ukrainian officials said military terminals lost connectivity above 100 mph (160 kph), disrupting drone operations. Yevhen Karas, commander of Ukraine’s 413th Separate Unmanned Systems Regiment, said an interruption lasted one day and affected several drones and missions. “Some missions failed, and we lost drones because communications were cut off,” Karas said.
