OpenAI quietly lists three aurora alpha models in its API

Identifiers named aurora-red-alpha, aurora-green-alpha and aurora-blue-alpha surfaced with no documentation or official comment from OpenAI Three new model identifiers have appeared in the OpenAI API: aurora-red-alpha, aurora-green-alpha, and aurora-blue-alpha. OpenAI has not announced them, documented them, or explained what they do. The names were reported on October 18, 2026. They reached a wider audience through a post on X from AI researcher @scaling01. Three model IDs, all carrying the “aurora” prefix and an “alpha” suffix, are now listed in OpenAI’s developer interface. What’s missing is everything a developer would usually look for.
