OCC Finalizes First GENIUS Act Rule, Effective Jan. 18, 2027

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) has finalized its first rule under the GENIUS Act, with the federal framework taking effect Jan. 18, 2027. The rule covers digital asset custody as well as reserves, redemptions and supervision. It establishes an oversight structure for those areas and marks the first completed regulatory measure under the act. The framework gives entities involved in digital asset custody a defined set of requirements. It is intended to strengthen trust and compliance in the digital asset industry. The Digital Chamber announced completion of the rule.
