New Study Says Quantum Corrections Could Erase Einstein’s Black Hole Singularities

A new paper in Physics Letters B argues that Einstein’s general relativity may be incomplete at the extreme densities inside black holes and at the Big Bang. By adding an infinite series of quantum-gravity corrections to Einstein’s equations, the authors say the usual singularities could be replaced with regular regions of space-time, with potential tests coming from gravitational-wave signals. Einstein’s general relativity has passed every test we can throw at it, yet it still points to places where physics effectively stops: the centers of black holes and the Universe’s earliest moments.
