Proposed North American grid standards for computational loads cleared a final ballot, moving toward board adoption as regulators address reliability risks from power-intensive facilities, including cryptocurrency operations. The North American Electric Reliability Corporation’s (NERC) proposals passed the ballot on Oct. 15. They are not yet in force. NERC’s board must adopt them before the organization submits them to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for approval. The broader effort addresses grid reliability risks from large computational loads, including data centers and cryptocurrency facilities.
