Ethereum Researchers Propose Reducing Transaction Finality Time to Four Minutes

Ethereum researchers have proposed redesigning the network’s consensus process to cut transaction finality across the network from roughly 16 minutes to about four. The EIP-8453 draft separates block-selection votes from finality attestations. The proposal targets at least a fourfold reduction in finality time, but remains an unfinished draft with no activation date. Faster settlement would extend Ethereum’s push toward a more efficient base layer while preserving the validator security model behind Ethereum . Under Ethereum’s current Gasper design, validator votes influence fork choice and help finalize older blocks.
