The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), the EU’s securities regulator, said Oct. 16 that the framework for the bloc’s move to next-business-day settlement is complete. The announcement sets a preparation timeline ahead of the EU’s Oct. 11, 2027, shift from T+2 to T+1 for in-scope securities trades. T+1 means settlement takes place one business day after the trade date; T+2 allows two business days. It does not mean a trade settles as soon as it is made.
