Digital Asset Security: What Changes as the Crypto Market Matures

Crypto services used to compete mainly on speed, asset coverage, and ease of use. Those still matter. But as the market has grown, users and regulators have started asking something else: how effectively can a platform identify and manage risk in the funds moving through it? According to the Chainalysis 2026 Crypto Crime Report, known illicit addresses received at least $154 billion in 2025, 162% more than a year earlier, driven largely by sanctions evasion and nation-state activity. Chainalysis also estimates that illicit activity still accounts for less than 1% of attributed on-chain volume. Most crypto activity remains legitimate.
