U.S. food importer Gellert Global Group Corp. sued President Donald Trump on Oct. 20 over 50% duties on certain Canadian goods, asking a trade court to stop collecting them and order refunds. The administration used Section 338 of the Tariff Act of 1930 after asserting that Canadian measures disadvantaged U.S. alcohol, dairy and motor vehicle exports. Trump signed three tariff proclamations on July 20. The initial duties began Aug. 22 at 12:01 a.m. ET (04:01 UTC), after an Aug. 19 start was postponed. The affected Canadian imports were valued at nearly $20 billion when the duties were announced.
