Deutsche Bank’s Crypto Custody Push Faces an Asian Test

Deutsche Bank is weeks away from launching cryptocurrency custody in Germany, entering a market where institutional safekeeping is increasingly becoming part of mainstream banking infrastructure. The lender’s next challenge is more complicated than protecting private keys. It intends to expand into Asian financial centers in 2027, where custody, stablecoin transactions and tokenized financial instruments can fall under different regulatory requirements. Gerald Podobnik, co-head of Deutsche Bank’s corporate banking division, outlined the timetable in an October 16 Reuters interview during the IMF and World Bank meetings in Bangkok.
