Democrats won majorities in both the U.S. House and Senate in the 2026 midterm elections, taking control of Congress and shifting the political backdrop for crypto regulation, federal spending and the dollar. The party gained Senate seats previously held by Republicans in Maine, Iowa, Kansas, Ohio, Texas, South Carolina and North Carolina, while keeping its seats in Georgia and New Hampshire. The gains spanned the Midwest and South, including Texas and both Carolinas. The House result also gave Democrats control of that chamber, completing the party’s takeover of Congress.
