U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said U.S. forces helped Gulf partners export more than 1.5 billion barrels of crude oil since summer, reporting a separate milestone for shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. The Oct. 25 announcement came during a visit to the strait by Adm. Brad Cooper, CENTCOM commander. Cooper flew over the waterway in a U.S. Army CH-47 Chinook to observe the operating environment. CENTCOM said more than 3,000 commercial vessels transited the strait with U.S. forces’ support over the previous six months.
