Bitcoin Nears $83,500 As Crypto Futures Volume Rises 19%

Bitcoin (BTC) touched a seven-day high near $83,500 on Oct. 21 as crypto futures trading increased alongside a rebound in Asian technology shares. The timing does not show that the stock gains caused the move in crypto prices. For the rolling 24-hour period measured in the Wednesday morning snapshot, crypto futures volume reached $190 billion, a 19% increase. Open interest, which tracks contracts that remain active, rose nearly 4% to $145 billion. Liquidations totaled $284 million, up 76%. The volume and open-interest changes describe different parts of derivatives trading.
