Binance co-CEO Richard Teng said attackers used software designed to erase their tools and traces during a roughly $6.3 billion hack, making the exchange’s investigation harder. Teng said multiple people took part in the attack. Binance’s review initially focused on a compromised laptop but later identified other entry points, he said. The attackers used EIP-7702 to gain on-chain execution authority over a Binance hot wallet, bypassing the exchange’s usual approval controls, Teng said. Binance halted withdrawals while rebuilding and testing its systems, Teng said.
