The Australian Securities and Investments Commission opened public consultation on proposed operating standards for digital asset platforms. The new regulatory framework, which officially takes effect on April 8, 2027, will require cryptocurrency exchanges and token custody providers to obtain specialized financial services licenses. The proposed guidelines establish strict baseline requirements for how companies must handle customer asset storage, execute trades, and manage internal financial conflicts of interest. Regulators set a November 27, 2026 deadline for industry participants to submit feedback before finalizing the rules in March.
