Anthropic has published new insights into the design of memory systems for AI agents, focusing on how its Claude models retain and organize knowledge between sessions. The research, titled "The components of agent memory" and released on November 6, 2026, outlines strategies such as "dreaming" and salience tagging to enhance memory functionality. The study draws parallels between human memory processes and AI memory systems. In humans, the hippocampus captures experiences in real time, while offline periods, such as sleep, allow the brain to consolidate these experiences into long-term knowledge stored in the neocortex.
