For most of the history of recorded video, ‘seeing’ was a reasonable starting point for ‘believing’. A video would show something that had happened somewhere, at some point, in front of a camera, and that was typically how we judged that certain events took place, but now, that assumption is breaking down. Today’s AI-generated video can produce people, places, voices, movements, and events that never existed. The technology has advanced from obvious visual glitches to systems capable of generating convincing video with synchronized dialogue, sound effects, realistic physics, and increasingly detailed human expressions.
