The UK government is reportedly considering whether to approve drilling at the Rosebank oilfield amid internal cabinet disagreements over energy security and climate objectives. Rosebank, the largest untapped oilfield in the UK, has been a point of contention since a previous production consent was ruled unlawful by Scotland’s Court of Session in 2025. The decision on the oilfield, located northwest of Shetland, remains pending as Energy Secretary Miatta Fahnbulleh is tasked with determining its future under a court-sensitive process.
