U.S. Jobs Figures Offer No Clear Signal of an AI-Driven Unemployment Surge

U.S. employment data have not established a broad rise in joblessness linked to artificial intelligence, while September hiring slowed and early research points to a possible hiring slowdown for younger workers in AI-exposed occupations. The September unemployment rate was 4.2%, within the 4.1% to 4.3% range since March. Employers added 29,000 jobs, below the average monthly gain of 45,000 over the prior 12 months. Those figures show a slower pace of hiring, but national totals do not identify what drove job gains or losses in individual lines of work. That distinction matters when assessing AI.
