President Donald Trump said Oct. 27 that consumer confidence had risen 7.5%, calling the increase substantial without naming the measure or period behind the figure. The Conference Board’s Consumer Confidence Index rose 7.5 points to 91.7 in October ; Trump did not identify a gauge or comparison period, leaving unclear whether his statement referred to that reading. Historical U.S. consumer-confidence readings have moved in different directions. The Michigan index fell from 64.7 to 57.9 in March 2025 amid tariff concerns. In March 2026, the Conference Board’s index rebounded to 91.8, while its expectations measure fell 1.7 points to 70.9.
