The upgrade targets how the network reaches finality, with implications for traders and developers. Solana has completed the rollout of its Alpenglow upgrade, CoinDesk reported on October 22, 2026. The upgrade touches the network's consensus layer, the underlying system validators use to agree on the state of the blockchain. Consensus upgrades are among the most consequential changes a blockchain can undergo. They determine how validators confirm transactions, how quickly those transactions become irreversible, and how the network behaves under heavy load. Alpenglow was designed as one such overhaul for Solana.
