The S&P 500 outlook has become more uncertain as US stocks enter the final week of October 2026 under pressure from rising energy prices, elevated bond yields and growing scrutiny of artificial intelligence spending. The benchmark closed at 7,623.68 on October 23 , falling 0.52% for the session. That left it approximately 2.5% below its October 6 closing high of 7,818.93, according to S&P 500 historical market data . The decline has not yet developed into a conventional market correction, generally defined as a fall of at least 10% from a recent high.
